Jeremy Engels

Dr. Jeremy Engels has been studying yoga since he was 16 years old. He has a particular interest in yoga philosophy, especially the Bhagavad Gita, and his teaching is aimed at helping students develop core strength so that they can stand up for their core values in life. He completed 200-hour Lila Yoga Teacher Training with Erica Kaufman in 2013, and his advanced 500-hour training in 2014, which included studies at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai, India. He completed an additional 200-hour Yoga Stream Teacher Training with physical therapist Lara Heimann in Costa Rica during the Summer 2015, a training that focused on anatomy and body mechanics. He completed his PhD in rhetoric from the University of Illinois, and he is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Arts & Sciences at Penn State. He is completing a book called The Yoga of Gratitude, which describes the contribution that yoga philosophy can make to contemporary conversations about grateful and compassionate living.
