Yoga is the art of living in a more balanced way, in harmony with the breath and in step with one’s natural rhythms, however fast or slow they might be. Yoga has taught me to live in a state of greater ease, especially in moments of frustration and challenge. Yoga has taught me how to better utilize my strength by practicing release and genuine rest. Yoga has taught me to pay attention to my own internal dialogue so that the words I use in reference to myself are kind. Yoga has taught me the value of patience and practice without being attached to outcomes.
Living with greater ease and balance has freed much of my energy for greater service in the interests of the good. I enjoy teaching yoga because it is an opportunity to share an ancient and time-tested “spiritual exercise” with other people who, like me, also hope to find greater balance and ease in their lives. I see yoga as a way forward for us as humans and as democratic citizens. It is awesome to get to study, and teach, Lila Yoga with my partner in life and living, Anna Sunderland Engels, who constantly inspires, and amazes, me with her gentle strength.
