Overview:
This experiential workshop will introduce the festival of Navratri, or the “Nine Nights of the Goddess”, inspired by the Navratri festival as celebrated in the Himalayan region of Northern India. We will meet about every three days during the festival period to learn about and connect to the divine energies of the goddess in her form as Durga, and support each other in our personal journey to connect to the energies of the Divine Feminine.
Participants will learn about the concept of Shakti, the Divine Feminine, particularly in her form as goddess Durga, and the nine embodiments of Durga honoured on the nine nights of Navratri. Participants will receive a booklet, materials and guidance for developing their daily personal practice of connecting to the energies of Durga at home throughout the festival, including mantras (chants), meditations, a “mala” or 108 bead rosary for doing mantra recitation, images of the goddess and more.
Each session will include:
- Gentle centering with simple yoga asana, meditation and breathing exercises (bring your mat)
- A talk and discussion on the significance of connecting to the Divine Feminine, and an introduction to Durga, her mantras (chants), symbolism, and the nine forms of Durga honoured nightly during Navratri
- Developing and nurturing a home practice to connect to the energies of the goddess
- Introduction to simple Sanskrit mantras for the various forms of the goddess
Cost: Includes all four workshops and workshop materials (booklet with information about the goddess, chants and other information, and ritual/meditation items, including 108-bead japa mala (rosary) for chanting and other items you can use in your home practice)
